New Zealand Camping “Getting back to the basics” is often how Kiwi Camping is seen, getting back in touch with nature and not relying on all the home comforts, however there are also campers who while getting back in touch with nature, cannot escape without the “essentials” of life such as hairdryers, televisions, radios, microwaves, refrigerators and hot and cold water on tap. Therefore your choice and enjoyment of New Zealand campsites can be driven by your needs. New Zealand Holiday Parks and Camping Grounds are among the best value, well equipped Campgrounds in the world. In addition to tent and powered campervan sites for your new zealand campervan, many holiday parks and campgrounds feature additional accommodation options ranging from cabins to motel-style accommodation. Communal kitchens, dining areas and lounges are usually standard. The communal kitchen would usually be a large area equipped with cooking elements, fridge, boiling water and hot/cold taps over a sink. (Don’t forget to take your own dishwashing liquid and tea towels) Many also offer additional kitchen equipment such as microwaves, kettles, toasters, full ovens, freezers and communal dining areas. Toilets and Shower blocks are usually divided into female/male, providing toilets, showers and hand basins. Most holiday parks have metered showers, so it is always handy to carry gold coins to operate these. The laundry is also coin operated in most campgrounds. The laundry is usually equipped with washing machines, dryers and wash tub providing hot and cold water. Additional Facilities are available in many holiday parks and campgrounds, including TV Room, Public Telephone, Playground, Swimming Pool, Spa Pool, Local Tour Bookings, Boat Ramps, Drying Rooms, Conference Facilities and souvenir shopping. Conservation Campsites DOC - (The Department of Conservation) campsites provide camping options in national and forest parks and other conservation areas throughout New Zealand. Most offer only basic facilities and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Pricing Tariff varies widely by location, facilities and time of year. Peak Season is generally from November through to February. During these months it is highly recommended that you book a site to ensure you are not disappointed. You will need to book well in advance to guarantee a good spot. As the more popular beach and lakeside campgrounds fill up very quick. However the campgrounds in remote areas usually operate on first come/first serve basis so reserving a site won’t be an option. |
